Erie made it a productive road trip to the North Area Athletic Complex on Tuesday.
The Tigers (2-0 record) stayed undefeated on the season with a 4-1 victory against Pomona at the NAAC.
Pomona (1-3) actually took an early 1-0 lead. Senior James Steele drove home a long direct free kick over the outreached arms of Erie goalie Peyton Portsche in the 5th minute.
Erie maintained the majority of the possession and scoring chances in the first half. The Tigers took a 2-1 lead going into halftime with goals by junior Sully Carey (11th-minute) and freshman Cael Ferrera (28th-minute).
Pomona goalie Tyler Krapes made a couple of solid saves before halftime to keep it a 1-goal game.
The Tigers extended their lead to 3-1 in the 58th-minute with a nice goal by senior Tyler Hoffman. Pomona back-up goal Eugene Cardenas had a good save on a direct free kick after Krapes had to leave the field after receiving a yellow card for handling the ball outside the goal box.
Krapes made a few point-blank saves late in the second half, but Erie added an insurance goal with 17 seconds to play by senior Carson McNeal.
Erie is back on its home turf Thursday, Aug. 31, with a non-league game against Pueblo South.
Pomona is back in action on Thursday too. The Panthers face D’Evelyn at 7 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Field.
